Helping Connections travel further
“Dashdot thinks further, taking into account the practical and the functional”
We’re all about co-creation, so we were thrilled to work together with design and innovation agency Made to develop the new website for Connections, a major Belgian travel organization. We sat down with online sales manager Ken Borteel, who told us why we’re not just another digital agency.
Young & hungry with a custom approach
As online sales manager for Connections, Ken is charged with tapping into the potential of online experiences to strengthen brand loyalty. He was Dashdot’s main point of contact for this project to create a new website for Connections together with Made. Made designed the site’s look and feel, while Dashdot took care of its development.
“We had a session with Dashdot co-founder Maarten about a year ago. We had a great feeling about these guys,” says Ken. “We’re a young and dynamic company, and we were looking for somebody who could challenge us, young wolves with an open mind. At the same time we didn’t want to work with someone who was pushing certain technology or anything else on us.”
Ken found that Dashdot was clearly not the typical digital product agency. “Other companies had such a standard approach that they wanted to push, while Dashdot immediately got that we needed something tailor-made,” he says. “They’re an agency that thinks further, taking into account the practical and the functional. They’ve also gone through a learning process to really understand our business, so they know what they’re talking about.”
“ Dashdot isn't a company that works 9 to 5 and can’t be reached afterwards. It’s like they’re a part of our team, part of the Connections family “
Technical team that’s part of the Connections Family
Ken was clear about the fact that the new Connections website needed lots of flexibility planned in. “We had to be able to add and adjust pages at all times,” he explains. “We don’t have any programmers in-house, or a technical team so that was very important. At one point we were looking at a particular CMS system, but Dashdot proactively suggested something else that fit better with our needs. That’s really when I realized that this was a strong and sustainable collaboration.”
Made created the first web designs, and Dashdot jumped into the process from the start. “Dashdot’s work would come into the picture later, but they showed commitment from the beginning. They coordinated with Made on aspects that had to be taken into account for the design,” Ken recounts.
After Made delivered the designs, Connections jumped into full time contact with Dashdot. “We got to work last summer, and the site was mostly ready in November,” recalls Ken. The static website went live on March 17th. Ken found that the collaboration went very efficiently: “We had very open communication, regular weekly meetings with plenty of contact in-between. It’s not a company that works 9 to 5 and can’t be reached afterwards. It’s like they’re a part of our team, part of the Connections family.”
Ken also sees a future for the collaboration going into the next phase. “I’m very happy Dashdot works with modern technologies like the React framework and especially Next.js. These frameworks allowed for rapid development and very high performance, which was a crucial requirement for us.” Dashdot and Connections are still working together, following up the new website with work on their booking channels. Ken explains, “Dashdot is now establishing a link between the mid and front offices, so that Connections packages can be booked automatically.”
What would Ken say if another travel company would ask why they should work with Dashdot? “I would say, Dashdot is ours!” he laughs.
